What We've Been Up to
February 23, 2010 : Keeping you Safe in Cyber Space
In the world of Cyber Space we must protect ourselves just as we do in the non-virtual (real) world. If we take a commonsensical approach to our information, share this approach with our children and the most vulnerable in our society, this includes our seniors, we will see a reduction in cyber crime.
The following, according to Cyber security expert, Brent MacLean, may not eliminate cyber crime, but it will sure go a long way towards reducing it:
Protect your e-identity- use different passwords for different accounts; ensure the passwords are complicated enough so as not to be hacked and do change your password frequently. This may seem like a cumbersome task, but you will be grateful, should you ever be the victim of a “hacking” scheme.
Activate your firewall-they were created for a purpose. Firewalls are the first line of defense against bogus sites, viruses and even hackers.
Use anti-virus software- They do help prevent computer “infection”. Updates are usually free so take advantage of them and when your subscription expires, do renew it, it will prevent a lot of hardship for you in the long run.
Install anti-spyware software- update this software as often as it asks you to and avoid coming under attack by Spyware.
Ensure your operating systems are updated- Stay current with the latest updates to your applications and operating systems.
Back-up your files- If your information is important to you, back it up and keep the files in a separate location form your computer. In the unlikely or unfortunate event such as fire or flood, your information will be protected-Or use a “data back -up service”.
Protect your wireless network (WiFi)-You may be supplying internet service to your neighbourhood and not even know it. Prevent intrusion, when you purchase your router, have it installed by a professional if you do not feel confident in doing so yourself…..”an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”.
Delete emails from unknown senders-If you do not recognize the sender’s name, don’t open the email. Delete it immediately! It could be that dreaded virus you have been hearing about.
Surf smart, Surf safe- If you are adding personal information such as your name or address on- line, make sure you have enabled the privacy settings and the site is a secure one.
Don’t be afraid to make the call-If you observe questionable content (such as child exploitation) call 911, if you suspect a cyber crime or scam, make the call. If you have computer maintenance challenges, call a licensed vendor or technician.

Public Relations
Public relations is the cornerstone of any comprehensive communications strategy. People may be unsure about a message coming from your organization, but they believe what they read, see, or hear in the press, television, or radio. The right mention in the right place will maximize all your communication efforts and do wonders for your business.
Public relations, in brief, it is a multi-faceted discipline with several stand-alone program strategies.
The major elements of public relations include:
- Issues management
- Public affairs
- Press agentry
- Media relations or publicity
There are times when advertising can be considered part of a public relations campaign-when used to eliminate confusion, abate apathy or support a specific cause.
Copywriting
Well-written copy is identified by how successful the intended message is effectively communicated, and verified by measurable results.
Whether it is writing copy for a direct mail marketing campaign, marketing communications, or website content - well-written copy is essential in successfully branding your company, and conveying a message that makes sense.
The written word is a powerful marketing tool that says so much about you and your business, so you can be assured that the work created for you will be written with the utmost attention to detail.
Event management
As communication consultants, we have helped clients develop effective messages and associated program strategies. Events can be a cost effective means of achieving multiple objectives. Events can be tailored to optimize media coverage. Because events provide a stage for meeting potential and existing clients face-to-face, they are a means of establishing or maintaining a strong relationship marketing program.
If the event is tied to a community related activity, it offers a prime opportunity to enhance your organization's public affairs initiatives. Plus, if there is any type of registration process, information gathered can often be used in future marketing efforts. From a promotions standpoint, events can be used to cross-promote products, services or initiatives and provide a means for sponsorships to help carry the event budget load.
How We Work
We work with you as part of your team to understand your needs and your goals.
Once we understand what you would like to achieve we work with you to set objectives. These objectives must be attainable, measurable and in sync with your marketing goals.
We go through the following steps:
- analysis of your audience
- examination of past and current communications
- development of a creative strategy
- development of key messages
All of these steps are done with a clear action plan. The action plan is your "road map at a glance" to let you know what we will be doing and how we will be doing it.
We keep you informed and in the loop every step of the way.
